GSIN prefabricated steel housing showcased at the 17th International Green Building and Building Energy Efficiency Conference

GSIN exhibited a model of Dongtai Ningxi Yuefu and its prefabricated steel residential product system at the 17th International Green Building and Building Energy Efficiency Conference and New Technology and Product Expo, held in Chengdu on 18–19 May 2021.

The event supported the seven-ministry goal that green buildings account for 70% of new urban construction in 2022. It was organized by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, Chengdu government, the US–China Green Fund, the Society's green-building and energy-efficiency committee and the International Future City Technology Innovation Alliance. Sessions covered research, trends, projects, standards, policy, assessment, design, optimized construction, ecological districts and carbon-peaking and neutrality pathways.

Ningxi Yuefu is in coastal central Jiangsu, facing the Yellow Sea and exposed to monsoons, humidity, high salinity and wind pressure. This release records 25 above-ground storeys, two basement levels, a height of 83.255 m and a floor area of 10,971 m². GSIN developed patented technologies for structural safety, wall insulation, window waterproofing, facade finish and interiors without exposed beams or columns.

Beams, columns, stairs and floors each achieve 100% component prefabrication. Large lightweight wall panels integrate insulation and finish, are made to design in the factory and installed dry on site. Under GB/T 51129-2017, the unfinished building already exceeds 60% prefabrication and qualifies as Grade A.

The above-ground steel structure and envelope took seven months, reported as 30% shorter than reinforced-concrete construction. The project saved 90% of scaffolding and 95% of formwork, while dry exterior-wall installation avoided replastering and saved approximately 190 m³ of water. Reduced temporary materials, storage needs, wet work, waste, dust and noise further supported greener construction.

GSIN will continue developing steel residential pilots and supporting construction-industry transformation and the wider adoption of green prefabricated buildings.
