1,000-tonne steel skybridge successfully lifted at Kangtai Group Tower

On 17 May, GSIN successfully completed overall lifting of the steel skybridge at Kangtai Group Tower.

The project has a total floor area of approximately 139,500 m² and steel consumption of approximately 8,000 tonnes. Tower A is a 36-storey, 183.1 m composite R&D building; Tower B is a 19-storey, 76.45 m prefabricated dormitory. A two-storey steel truss skybridge connects the towers at the top of Tower B. Uses include basement parking, new industrial premises, dormitories and retail podiums. Structural systems include concrete-filled steel-tube frames with reinforced-concrete cores, frame–shear walls and steel trusses.

The skybridge connects floors 13–15 of Tower A and floors 16–19 of Tower B. Its lower chord is installed at 61.75 m and upper chord at 70.75 m. The completed bridge is approximately 17 m wide and 40 m long, with six main support trusses, each 9 m high. The projecting truss portion weighs approximately 1,000 tonnes.

Five hydraulic lifting units at five synchronized lifting points raised approximately 1,000 tonnes through 61.75 m in about nine hours. The team overcame the difficulties of the unusual skybridge through coordinated, precise and safe construction, adding another representative overall-lifting project to GSIN's experience.
