Wuxi's first prefabricated steel apartment project tops out

On 15 December, the main structure of Building 8 at Wuxi CEC Innovation Park was topped out. Delivered by GSIN, it is Wuxi's first prefabricated steel-structure apartment project.

Located in Xinwu District, Wuxi, the building has one basement level and 21 above-ground storeys, a total height of 70.2 m and a floor area of 14,041.39 m².

The high-rise apartment building uses GSIN's prefabricated steel-structure light-panel technology. Its main structure combines a steel frame with steel-plate shear walls. Exterior walls are double-layer composites of autoclaved aerated concrete panels and fibre-cement panels, installed externally on steel framing.

The project is delivered with finished interiors and has a prefabrication rate of 80.1%. It demonstrates open spaces, flexible layouts, seismic performance, rapid construction, quality and recyclability. The approach aims to reduce construction pollution and resource use while enabling low lifecycle energy consumption, replaceable components and maintainable buildings.
